Are you in that phase of life where you want to know what the Bible says about career decisions in order not to go out of God's will for your life?

If Yes, then I believe you will find this article beneficial.

In choosing the path for life, while people jump at their field of interest, many others are often faced with anxiety, not sure of what to do with their lives.

People move from one job to another because they have not found fulfillment in what they do, even when people start making enough money, they are still found quitting their jobs.

Choosing a career is a huge step in life, just like choosing a city to live in, who to get married to, and so on.

We often feel anxious with these decisions because of the importance we place on them, we pray to God to give us direction on the career to choose.

God loves mankind and has a will for man. God wants to be involved in our lives, however, when we do not pay attention to his leading, we fail to recognize it.

What is a Career?

A career is a person's main employment, walk of life, or profession. Your career is what you invest your life in, a career is a source of income or sustainability.

People often choose their career based on vocation; their area of interest and what turns on their energy, because they would spend a huge part of their lives building it.

Many other people choose their careers due to their economic value.

Choosing the right career is very important, because it forms a major part of your daily activities.

Failure to do so can result in unhappiness and unfulfillment.

This can be avoided by choosing a career that you are passionate about and compliments your natural talents, that way you can easily be efficient.

Not choosing the right career has resulted in many people locked in a daily routine they do not like, producing unhappy and aggressive people.

Does God Choose a Career for People?

Our career choice is influenced by the things we are passionate about because God has given man free will.

Our career is a result of our ambitions, as people in the world, we need to add value and be relevant to the world, at the same time seek a means of survival.

As believers in Christ, the will of God becomes our will, which is to reach out to the world with the knowledge of God. Habakkuk 2:14, so we get to choose the career we live by, through the guidance of God's word.

Ultimately we are guided on how to conduct ourselves in our various careers, and this can only be by knowledge of God's word.

As a believer that has an understanding of the work of ministry that has been delivered to us, in your search for a job and the building of your career, your considerations will be how to use your business, profession, skill, to reach out to the world about the love of God.

Your career becomes a platform to express the love of God to humanity, whether you are a teacher, a politician, a writer, a business person, a lawyer, a doctor, a musician, you use your profession to spread the knowledge of God.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 KJV
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; [4] Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

How to Follow God's leading in Choosing a Career

Many times in choosing a career, people are unsure of what the future holds.
While we try to make the right career decisions, we do not have all the details of what the future holds, and have to rely on God to lead us.

Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Romans 8:14 KJV
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

God leads us by his spirit, but ultimately we have to make a decision, when we understand that the ultimate will of God for man is to be in Union with him, it influences the direction of our lives.

What the Bible says about Career Decisions?

The bible contains words of wisdom that we can apply in our decision to choose a career

Titus 3:14 (msg)
Our people have to learn to be diligent in their work so that all necessities are met (especially among the needy) and they don't end up with nothing to show for their lives.

1 Timothy 5
[8]But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.

Proverbs 13:21-22 KJV
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. [22] A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

The scripture above is about the need to be involved in honest businesses.

A good way is by identifying and providing solutions to the needs of man.

God has given man the ability to recognize and provide solutions.

The problems are usually things that inconvenience us or those around us, you do not have to look too far, if you solve a Problem in your neighbourhood, you will be rewarded for the value of it.

Proverbs 13:11 KJV
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

People get rich for solving human problems, wealth is often a reward for the value provided in society, so if you want to do well in a career, Identify problems and give solutions.

Ecclesiastes 9:10-11
[10]Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom. [11]I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Ecclesiastes 11:9
[9]Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do.

Youth comes with a lot of energy and excitement, there are a lot of opportunities to explore, the bible instructs us not to be carried away, but to remember God while we still have strength, so we do not look back with regret.

Conclusion

A person's career is more important than it often appears, it's not just about the money or status, a career is usually used as the summary of a person's existence.

Man needs a means of livelihood, the need to provide for one's needs makes us consider the financial value of each career.

The bible does not say we should hate money, it warns us against the love of money, in choosing a career it is important that money should not be the only motivation.

Money is important but it should not be the basis of choosing a career, doing that can cause a person to choose a career that will distract us from the will of God for our lives.

Some jobs or careers can take you away from the fellowship of the brethren, and this is unhealthy, and if you do not start making a lot of money in a short while, you will feel unhappy and discouraged.

Life on earth is brief compared to our existence in eternity, in our decision making we should have that in view, and should not only invest in our lives here on earth but after as well.
