Politics. A whole battlefield of people striving for power.

Over the years, politics has become a deadly and dangerous game. It has become a do-or-die affair; a game in which people are used as pawns and end up losing their properties or lives or those of their loved ones.

Politics is no longer a peaceful contest for power; it is now a terrible war for power, and people can do anything for power. The word “politics” has become a stale word which makes it a no-go area.

And now for the big question? Can Christianity save politics?

I honestly believe Christianity can save politics. John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So, you must be wondering, what is the remedy to this horrible plague of corruption in the world of politics? Well, dear readers, the answer is staring right before you. The Bible, our source of godly guidance tells us to confess our sins.

But it isn't as easy as it looks. Take, for example, a rich politician who bribes to get things done. For them, it wouldn’t be easy since repenting would mean confessing his sins to God and the people he stole from and cheated.

It would mean returning all his stolen goods and ending back in square one with a bad reputation and nothing to show for all his years in politics. Obviously, no one would want to go through such. Therefore, we can notice that the relationship between Christianity and politics is a very difficult one. In a career where everyone steals, lies, and dupes people to make a living, it is very hard for Christians to survive.

Mahatma Gandhi indeed even said that religion should be separated from politics, but on the contrary, the Bible calls us the light of the world and goes on to urge us to let our light shine before men, so that they may

see our good deeds and glorify their father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16).

Therefore, this means we are meant to influence our world positively, in any career we find ourselves. This includes politics.

It might seem hard and absurd to be in the political sector and not be aiding and abetting corruption but several prominent and well-respected Biblical characters were good leaders and also served God with all their heart. These include Noah, David, Joseph, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Deborah, just to mention a few. These people rose to the occasion and led their people well. Take Joseph for example.

Despite the enticing things around him, such as Potiphar’s wife, he decided to remain faithful to God. This is a very good example of a good leader who believed in God and didn't mix up politics and his faith.

So you see, Christianity and politics can get along. Romans 13:1 says, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” This just proves that Christians should partake in politics and try to change the current problem with politics.
